Shannon's Medical Update:
- Thank you to all of our friends and family for your prayers, financial assistance, and help
with the farm during this time. Your love and continued support will get us through! Keep
the faith and keep in touch!

Shannon was diagnosed on January 15, 2008 with Stage IV Colon Cancer. He has since learned from a PET scan
that he has Liver mets. He underwent a second surgery on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 for a liver resection
and radiofrequency ablation. After approx 8days at National Park Hospital in Hot Springs, we returned home to
SELDOM REST RANCH and recovered for 6weeks. The Chemo process  started Mar 9th and will be every other
week for 6mos at least. Please know that everyone's love and prayers are what keeps us strong and focused in
our battle. The competitive, optimistic, and brave spirit is evident daily in Shannon's love of life and our family's
discipline to honor God's journey for us. We are having to change alot right now; however, the changes only
reflect what we believe is intended for our blessed farm, family, and spiritual needs. May the Lord continue to
bless you daily as well -     Nikol, Shannon, and Carson   (2/3/08)

2/14/08 - We are home finally post liver resection. No MAJOR complications. Starting Chemo March 4. Keep us in
the prayer chains!
3/4/08 - Shannon got his first round of Chemo today (Oxaliplatin, Leucovorin, &5FU) took about 3 1/2 hours. No
major problems. Got to wear his fanny pack home for 48hrs. Some mild nausea, no emesis, and fatigued! He
slept alot at first b/c of the phenergan but hope it always goes this well!  Thanks for all the calls!

3/18/08 - Shannon got a second round of Chemo today. MD did not give him the Avastin medicine for liver due to
problems and issues with insurance not paying. Major issues with oncologist/insurance/pt financial coverage.
We are hanging in there and being patient advocates. No problems again with tx except the neuropathy. He was
jam packed with events during this chemo and did very well. Plan is to start all meds with 3rd tx. We are
constantly making phone calls to insurance and trying to sort out the mess.

4/1/08 - Shannon got his third round of Chemo today. Again, only (Oxaliplatin, Lecucovorin, and 5FU). MD states
that he had been looking at wrong surgical date and he needed to be six weeks out from last surgery to start
Avastin.......so since his appt wasn't until 1pm and Dr Divers didn't get him all hooked up till after 2:30pm..no time
for it today. Next tx should consist of all meds +Avastin for the liver. We are just trying to stay positive and
continue to call insurance and make payment arrangements until insurance starts to pay. A TRUE MESS!
He again has done well with this tx. No major problems. We had two new baby fillies this week out of Snake's
stud horse "Showdown" and they are great. Way to go Mama Bug & Tiarra!

4/15/08 - Happy Tax Day! 4th chemo today went well. CEA level drawn (tells if the cancer is more aggressive or
not since initial lab done in hospital). Good news - level is down! Still feeling very fatigued and chemo brain/fog
increases alot during the txs - so a little forgetful! Otherwise, still going the same. He did get the Avastin
medicine today so the neuropathy is worsening! Gaining weight and very positive!

4/29/08 - 5th chemo day! Got Avastin again! He has been really busy this week trying to go to farrier clinics with
Hooter, riding Peck, and getting all the breeding / shipped semen stuff done with Dr Tilley. We did get to go
Firewater Creek Ranch on 4/25 and that was so neat to see Azyoucansee and the Firewater place! He is gaining
weight too! He is started to try to build some shoes and gain some strength back daily. Keep praying - it is
working!
